GETTING STARTED WITH DIRECT TO EXCEL

Overview
If you want to learn how to digitize in instruNet World, and then save a text file to be loaded by a
spreadsheet program, post-acquisition, please refer to Saving Data to Excel from instruNet World. If you want to
digitize into a spreadsheet, while data is being acquired, please consider the Direct To Excel program,
described here. Note that Direct To Excel requires that an iW+ license be installed on your computer. To
run Direct To Excel, please proceed with the following steps:
Installation
- In order to run Direct To Excel, All of the following must be installed on your computer. If this is not the
case, please proceed to the next section.
- Windows Excel version 8.0 or above (i.e. Microsoft Office 97 or above)
- Windows OS >= 98 (not 95, not Macintosh)
- Windows .Net Framework (which is included with the instruNet software, and is included automatically
on Windows >= XP computers)
- instruNet software >= 2.0 (7/1/2003), available at www.instrunet.com/d
- iW+ license (see www.instrunet.com/plus for details)
- If you are not sure these requirements have been satisfied, try running the Direct To Excel program, a
described below, and if it runs ok, then you are probably ok.
- Exit any currently running instruNet software and select under the Windows START menu: Programs /
instruNet / Application Software / Direct To Excel / Direct To Excel.exe. This will run a program written in
Visual Basic; the source code of which is currently installed on your hard disk. You are welcome to modify
it.
- Press the Channels button, select 2 channels for digitizing (i.e. click in small rectangle after channel
address, it will turn red), and close the instruNet Network window.
- Press the Start button and watch a new spreadsheet window appear and fill with instruNet data, as
shown below. When finished, you can save or delete the Excel spreadsheet file.
- To learn more, please press the Help button.
- Close the Direct To Excel program by clicking in the upper right corner.

Known Issues
- If working with Direct To Excel <= v2.0 and it does not work properly (e.g. covers your valid data with zeros within the spreadsheet cells, shows"input string is invalid" message, etc) please:
- Visit http://www.instrunet.com/ftp/direct_to_excel/,
download the listed zip file (i.e. drag to desktop), expand the zip file, and do as instructed in the ReadMe file to update your Direct To Excel.exe application program.
- Update to the latest iNet32.dll, per the instructions here.
- Direct To Excel included with instruNet Software < v2.0 did not require iW+ (PLUS), yet with instruNet Software >= v2.0 does
